Pavement Ant

Size: 1/10 inch

Color: Black and light brown

Where found: Pavement cracks, inside walls, under floors

Potential treatment: Exterior/ interior

Pavement ants are about one-tenth of an inch long and are black to light brown in color, with lighter appendages. They commonly nest outside beneath stones and in pavement cracks and crevices, but they frequently will enter buildings in search of food.

During colder weather these ants may be found nesting within walls of buildings and beneath floors.

They will eat virtually anything, favoring greasy and sweet foods.

Queens lay eggs, anywhere from 5 to 20 per day. The young emerge in about 40 days and develop through three stages to adulthood.

Slab homes appear to be particularly vulnerable to nesting pavement ants.
